Dearest readers, we're ten days into the new year, and yours truly is already working her sweet booty off at the gym ;) As I'm sure I'm not the only one trying to get ready for the warm days and skimpy/tight clothes, I wanted to share my top diet advice for 2017. It can be summed up in one sentence (though I'll go into detail about it below): Do not attempt a diet without an exercise routine.
I tried it tons of times before. Let me just work out a lot and then I can eat all of my favorite foods and I'll still lose weight if I restrict my calories (which I fail at because hey, it's my favorite foods haha). Or, let me just diet a lot, really restrict my food and I don't need to work out which is good because I'm too busy right now. These are the two sides of the always fail coin. The amount of workout you need without a diet, as well as the insane food restriction you require without workouts is impossible to achieve long-term (and let's face it, even 10 pounds is a long-term commitment because fat loss simply takes time).
Another major point is that when it comes to weight loss, it's a project so important it's worth doing right (as, quite frankly, all projects should be). If a workout and diet are the most effective, scientifically-backed fat loss combo, why settle for just a piece of it? Why even look for a sucessful outcome if you're not willing to follow a tried and true blueprint for success? If someone gives you a map to a hidden treasure, don't go digging around wherever- go for the X that marks the spot. :)
Finally, if you try a diet and workout combo and it's taking too great of a toll on your body and everyday life, don't be too quick to dump one of the two. Remember, both diet and workouts help you lose weight. If you treat each of those like the other doesn't exist, you'll end up working out or dieting way too much. If that's the case, simply adjust both your diet and workouts so that, combined, they are at a more manageable level. Remember, it's a marathon- not a sprint.
I hope you find this useful- I know I did. It may very well become your silver bullet for nailing that summer look you may have missed last year ;) Oh, and when it gets tough, remember- you wanted it, so you have to see it through! :)
