Dearest readers, all of us know this particularly jarring fact of life- you can't buy time. Whether we are getting everything done in line that we want, hope for and crave or not, time flies (or flees, as the Romans used to say). One of the best ways for us to mitigate it in this day and age is by investing time and energy in planning our lives better, as well as finding and applying different life hacks to have not necessarily more time, but rather more free time that we can utilize as we see fit. There are many life hacks and optimizations. Some people move closer to work or buy a car to shorten their commute time. Others do meal prep once per week so their weekday food prep time is down to a minimum. Others clean up after themselves at home bit by bit so they rarely have to do major cleaning and chores around the house. The options, dearest readers, are many. Once they have the extra free time, however, most people fall short of utilizing it well, leading to total disappointment and a sense of defeat. Here, I'd like to look at two main options of what to do with the free time you get with all the life hacks, and how to ensure you have what it takes to do those two options to their fullest.
The first option of what to do with your extra free time is to use it to enjoy and embrace life and aspects of it that bring you joy and satisfaction. If you like to play video games, you get more gaming time. If you like to hang out with people, drink and get into fun conversations, you go do that. If you like to volunteer or learn new skills, you go after that. You may be tempted to use your time to learn something new, start a side hustle that can turn into a business, or something else productive, but then you remember everyone dies in the end and so we need to enjoy life as all it has to offer, making it the highest priority at least in your free time, if not all the time. You firmly believe it's ok not to work yourself to the bone trying to start up the next Google in your spare time, and that is totally fine.
The second option is to do the exact opposite with your free time. You have a fiery ambition and the drive to upgrade your skills or develop a business in your free time, thereby eventually gaining financial freedom or having total control over your career destiny in the business world. You are motivated, capable, and you want to spend your youth's free time working on creating a business that will give you financial freedom when you're older. Sure, you won't be young any more, but the money and lots of free time you'll have will make you look younger and more attractive to people you want to have sex with ;) This rings true to you almost entirely regardless of how old you are, as long as you're not retired yet.
Regardless of which one of these two major options you choose, most people run into the same major problem very quickly. You get so tired applying life hacks and carving out free time for yourself that you don't have the requisite energy to do anything with your free time except to sit around or lay around, either sleeping or watching TV- and eating, way too much and all the wrong foods. Sounds familiar? We've all been there, and some of us still are.
So, what's the problem? The problem, dearest readers, is that the society is lying to us big time. We are told that a healthy diet, supplements and proper sleep are just for people who want to be extra fit, healthy and good looking. We are told we don't need to pay attention to these things just to live a life. I have learned, over many years, that this is simply not true. If you want to truly utilize your free time in any of the ways described above, you need to have as much health, energy and mental as well as physical fortitude to do more in your free time than just sit, sleep, binge watch and eat. Once all of a day's tasks are done, there's usually nothing left in many people I know to do what they want with their free time, they're all squeezed out. Once they embrace the right nutrition, supplements and a workout routine, however, that all changes for the better. You'll hear so many people tell you that we are in a sedentary age where we do very little and are not on the move. Some of us even embrace sitting down and doing nothing in our free time as the highest form of rest and relaxation. When you get everything your body and mind need, you realize that's just a mirage. Once you have everything you need, you're not sitting still and mindless during your extra free time, but you feel more relaxed, refreshed and fulfilled than ever before because you act and move the way you want.
It's almost paradoxical to rest by doing things simply because they are things you enjoy doing, but hey it works! If you're not there yet, set yourself on a path to getting there- it's awesome :)
